Jeremy and I visited Les Hirondelles here in Kibungo this week. It's a private school in town and has the resources to show for it. It is the recipient of no government funding. It is funded by parents and, I believe, Soroptimist group. Teachers' salaries here are double what they are in the public school. This school's results are much, much higher than many others in the district. We wanted to find out what this school is doing differently and what information we could bring to other schools in the district.

Computer lab for secondary students. These computers were donated but currently are only in Chinese so the school is waiting for a technician to come and help them. The computers are great, there is electricity in the classroom but as of yet they have been waiting for tow months.
Because Les Hirondelles is a private school, they do not qualify to have One Laptop Per Child given to them. However, they have purchased 25 computers for primary students. Again, they are waiting in boxes for technician to arrive!
They are sturdy enough - we hope - for Rwandan conditions.
The girls at Les Hirondelles are into knitting but have had to be inventive about how to get needles. They use the inside of pens as needles instead.
Friday night knitting club? This girl has a completed scarf and one on the way. Too bad rainy season is almost over and it will be too hot to wear it!
